C Major Scale Training Goals

Core Location: Scales

Our Goal = Play the C Major Scale in this tone order. In the second video, we have our big goal...C Major scale in 5 positions.

This is scale pattern 54 of our 7 Majors System and is played in alpha-tone order (lowest root → highest in pattern → lowest in pattern → back to starting root).

c major guitar scale in tab in first position

We start on the lowest C, play to the highest tone [high G] in P1 [position one], then descend to the lowest [Low E], then back to the C [where it all began]. This pattern can also be used as a basis for reading music - we learn the naturals first. Apply the pick training list, if needed.

Ultimately we want to play it single tones down-up (alternate picking), and increase the tempo, always comfortably in control. Once comfortable, say the tone names as you pick them (letter names below the tablature), ascending and descending.

Then, as with all tone sets, we improvise. As you 'exhaust' possibilities, we will play and hear common melodies that you.

Big Goal

As mentioned, in the second video in the player at the top of this page, we have our big goal...to play all 7 Major scale patterns in C Major (and in every key!). We will cover this in our 7 Majors system. Here's a pdf with all 7 patterns. Here it is again, if you missed it...
