  1. Warm up:
    - Single string picking - how you hold your pick, angle of the pick, picking motors
    - 1234-4321 chromatics on a single string. We will play these in a position on all strings as well.
  2. RIffs/Melodies - Crazy Train (alternate picking, Smoke on the Water, Seven Nation Army
  3. Shape Connect chord changes - every chord has a different hand shape. Three types of changes: Lift/Land, Add/Sub, Guide/Slide. We are also using touch-press on chords to create rhythms and to rest pressure.
  4. Scales - Em/G Pentatonic +11 =12 scales (move to every position). Picking list: SD, DD, DDU, SDU. The number of tones in a scale is the minimum number of names it has. For pentatonics, we are focusing on 2 of the names...minor and Major. The minor name is the tone at the first finger on the 6th string (the open for Em at the nut, so E...E minor). The Major name is at the pinky on string 6 (for Em/G pentatonic at the nut, this will be a G tone played with 2 or 3 finger).

    G Major - adding F# and C to Em/G Pentatonic
  5. Songs - building a list. I have a new song idea for you, once you get first changes on track two of Shape Connect (G Cadd9 D Em). Check out this Rhythm Player pdf. Yellow - 7 2 0 | 0 444 222 in power chords.

We are also doing touch-press for power chords for E (6-5 strings) and A forms (5-4 strings). And, learning to switch between them (a common maneuver).

Jam Tracks

This track is for using the E minor pentatonic (G Major) scale to melodically improvise. Train the scale first, then jam. I'll be adding more tracks to this player or switching to video.
